Manatee cannot connect to the backend (Kwanza)

If a non-green dot is showing when you right-click the Manatee icon in the notification area then Manatee cannot connect to its backend. The following verifications can be attempted:

  • Check whether the address listed in the right-click menu is correct (and the port)
  • Check outbound firewall rules for the port listed (it should be possible to open a browser and go to the address without getting a timeout)
  • Verify that the certificate on the backend (Kwanza) has not expired
  • Verify that the certificate on the backend (Kwanza) includes the domain you’re trying to connect to
  • Wait a few minutes as the backend will throttle requests when many Manatees attempt to connect at the same time
  • Check the backend (Kwanza) settings for per-client throttling - if many clients connect from the same IP address then they may get unecessarily throttled and you can increase the per-client throttling limits on the backend
